Sleep Products That Are Recalled

When you are sleep deprived and in a moment of desperation, all the sleep products out there could be very tempting. You’re exhausted, your baby won’t sleep, and you are at your wits end! I get it! I have been there! However, don’t let the stress of no sleep cause you to make unsafe sleep decisions. If you are struggling to get your baby to sleep at night, reach out to us and let us help you!

There are baby and children product recalls happening all the time and it's hard to keep up to date with the latest recalls.  I have been a sleep consultant for nine years and there are products that were OK for sleep back then that are no longer recommended.  My goal is to try to be as up to date as I can be for you.  Below are some products that are currently not recommended for sleep.

The new guideline now is that inclined sleep products are never OK for sleep. When babies are sleeping they should be laid down on their backs on a flat surface such as a crib or pack and play or bassinet without any extra bedding or bumpers.

Here are some other sleep products that you should not use:

  • Fisher Price Rock and Play
  • Swaddle Me By Your Bed Sleeper Baby Lounger
  • Swing
  • Bouncy Chair
  • Crib Bumpers
  • Dockatot
  • DaVinci Brand Wooden Bassinet-Bailey Model
  • Any Type Of Positioner
  • Crib Tent

What about the times that your baby falls asleep in the car seat in the car or stroller? That’s not a flat surface so you may be wondering if it is okay for them to sleep there. It is OK for them to sleep in the car or stroller in their car seat for short periods of time, never extended periods and the sleep should be observed or monitored. Also make sure your car seat is installed and being used properly and have it inspected. The car seat should not be brought into the house for the child to continue sleeping. Take them out of the car seat and either transfer them to the crib to continue sleeping or call the sleep time over. Your baby should never sleep overnight in a car seat.

So what is OK to use? A pack a play, crib, or bassinet, are all sleep products that are OK to use. A co-sleeper next to your bed if your baby is not rolling yet is also OK.  For any sleep product that you use, ensure it is properly used and follow all safety guidelines recommended for that specific product.

I know it can seem overwhelming to keep up with the rules of safe sleep, and that is why we are here! Let us help you set up a healthy sleep routine with your family and make sure that you are all safely resting at night.

Working with Shannon, I went from 2-3 wake ups every night to 1 or 0. She aligned the plan with my preferred sleep cycle. She was always coaching, never judging. Shannon was great, I have referred MANY people to her! That's the best testament to her work that I can give.
