After the birth of my son, my whole world was flipped upside down. I thought I could handle the lack of sleep that came along with motherhood. I learned firsthand the endless exhaustion of sleepless nights and the frustration of poor or non-existent naps. The anxiety and exhaustion hit me like an 18-wheeler and I found myself justifying his short naps and multiple night wakings because “it is what it is” and “he is just a baby and doesn’t know any better.”
I quickly found myself in a deep hole of sleep deprivation that I did not know how to get out of. Some days I could barely function. If you are like me, you love your sleep and need it to be the best functioning you each day. My ideal visions of being a mommy were far from the reality that I was living. Sleep deprivation was affecting every aspect of my life. I wanted to be a good mom, but I felt like I was failing. I needed change, help, SLEEP. I was recommended to a Sleep Consultant – someone to guide me in teaching my son to sleep independently. And it worked! This was absolutely the best decision! Within three nights, all three of us were sleeping through the night. Our lives were changed dramatically.
After my experience, I was motivated to help other parents just like me. I wanted to support parents to eliminate any issues caused by sleeplessness, that were keeping them from having the relationship with their children that they dreamed of. I know firsthand the importance of establishing healthy sleeping habits from the start, and now I’m dedicated to providing the tools and support to other families in need. Babies do not come with a manual.
My name is Courtney Richardson, a Sleep Sense™ Certified Pediatric Sleep Specialist, and I have transformed my personal parenting hurdles into a heartfelt and passionate mission to guide families towards achieving restorative and restful sleep. If your baby is waking multiple times a night, naps are never long enough or are inconsistent, and bedtime is the most dreaded part of the night, then I am here to tell you it doesn’t have to be this way!
